Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Jiera, Relic Appraiser

The wise woman who reveals what Norgan's spoils truly hold.

Last updated:

Jiera

Jiera is the resident wise woman of the Norgandian Settlement, the lone bastion of civilization in Norgan’s frozen north. When Dark Arisen launches on October 9, 2026, she becomes the most important NPC in the expansion’s loot loop: every unidentified relic you carry out of the snow passes through her hands before it becomes usable gear. That makes her the reason you keep walking back to town, and the reason your Rift Crystal balance matters twice as much.

Capcom has described Jiera as the local expert on Norgan’s relics — the timeworn spoils of an ancient war that now litter the frozen wastes. She appraises unidentified items at a Rift Crystal cost, transforming grey, unusable gear into weapons and armor with randomized stats, effects, and sometimes unique or upgraded vocation skills. Until you pay that toll, a relic is just inventory weight.

The appraisal economy

Preview coverage describes at least three spoil tiers, with tougher enemies dropping higher-quality relics. Jiera’s RC price scales with that tier. Capcom has not published exact numbers, which means launch-day Jiera visits require judgment calls: identify every junk helm and you stall your pawn hires; ignore high-tier drops and you walk into Lost Rites undergeared. The intended answer is neither extreme — sample each tier, keep RC in reserve, and upgrade when the roll justifies the spend.

Jiera’s role is deliberately isolated to Norgan. Director Kento Kinoshita has said this boundary keeps the north distinct: you gather relics in the snow, you identify them in the settlement, and you wear the results everywhere. You cannot appraise in Vernworth. You cannot shortcut the economy. That separation is the design.

What appraisal produces

Relics after Jiera’s touch can yield:

  • Higher raw attack or defence than typical base-game finds.
  • Statistical bonuses you can build around.
  • Special effects and unique skills that change a rotation.
  • Upgraded versions of existing vocation skills, shown with a dark-red visual when used.
  • Multiple skills on a single weapon — preview footage showed a Magick Archer bow arriving with three skills and a visible power spike.

The color of a relic’s glow is believed to indicate rarity, but Capcom has not released a public color chart. Treat bright-glowing drops from bosses and named hunts as your priority identifications; treat grey spoils as budget decisions.

Jiera and the larger loop

The appraisal sits in the middle of the Relic Expedition Cycle: explore Norgan, kill monsters, gather unidentified spoils, return to the Norgandian Settlement, pay Jiera, equip, and go deeper. Freki, the direwolf who sniffs out buried relics, works alongside this loop — you feed the wolf meat and follow it to buried items that also need Jiera’s eye before they become gear.

Rift Crystals also hire pawns. Dark Arisen splits that budget: fashionable rift pawns compete with relic identification. Jiera does not care whether you spent your crystals on a meta hire or a gold-tier spoil. Plan both costs before you enter Norgan.

Relationship to the story

Jiera is not described as a quest-giver in the same sense as the main story NPCs. Her function is systemic rather than narrative — she is the mechanic who unlocks the relic layer, not a character with cutscenes. Preview builds place her in the settlement as the relic counter, and Capcom’s official relic expedition description names her specifically as the appraisal NPC. Her personality, voice acting, and any quest lines beyond the appraisal loop are unknown before launch.

Pair with

  • Relics — the full expedition and identification loop.
  • Norgan — the region where you gather what Jiera appraises.
  • Pawns — because RC budgets affect who you can hire.
  • Party compositions — because relic gear changes what your four-person party can do.

When the expansion ships, this page will expand with quest involvement, dialogue notes, and exact RC cost tables from in-game testing. Until October 9, Jiera is the name on the appraisal counter and the reason your Norgan runs end with a trip to town.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before the October 9, 2026 launch.

Who is Jiera?

Jiera is the wise woman at the Norgandian Settlement in Norgan who appraises unidentified relics for Rift Crystals. She is the central NPC of the relic expedition loop.

What does Jiera do?

She transforms unidentified relic spoils into usable weapons and armor with randomized stats, effects, and sometimes unique or upgraded skills. This costs Rift Crystals.
