Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Getting Started Before Norgan
Editions, specs, vocations, and a level 40 plan for October 9, 2026.
Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is an upcoming Capcom expansion, not a sequel and not a live service. It launches October 9, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. Steam may display October 8 because of unlock time. Use this page as a pre-launch checklist: pick the right SKU, confirm your hardware, rebuild or reroll an Arisen, and decide whether you will enter Norgan around level 40 or open Lost Rites from level 20.
The game remains a single-player action RPG on Capcom’s RE Engine, PEGI 18. Pawns are AI. The campaign is single-player. If a store page talks like a multiplayer loot shooter, you are on the wrong product.
Pick an edition before you pre-order
Existing Dragon’s Dogma 2 owners on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam buy the Dark Arisen Expansion for $29.99. That DLC requires the base game. Players who do not own the 2024 campaign should buy the $49.99 Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen bundle, which includes the base game plus the expansion. Nintendo Switch 2 ships both together in one SKU; there is no separate “expansion-only” Switch 2 product in the current lineup.
Pre-order bonus is the Norgan Fashion Set / Northern Attire. Capcom sends it to inn item storage at launch — not to your backpack, not to the rift, not to a cash shop. Talk to an innkeeper after the expansion goes live. The set is described as fashion for stepping into the far north, with visual variants; treat it as a cosmetic until we can confirm stats in-game. Compare storefronts on the pre-order page and the platform list so you do not double-buy music tracks or camping kits that some bundles include.
Confirm platform and PC specs
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch 2 are the confirmed platforms. Series S does not support ray tracing. PC players should read system requirements before they assume a 2024 rig still holds a 60 FPS lock in blizzards. The August title update included performance work across platforms; that is a patch for the base game, not a reason to ignore GPU headroom for snow, wind, and denser enemy packs in Norgan.
If you are moving from another platform, remember that pawns, saves, and inn storage do not travel with you. A new Arisen on Switch 2 is a new save, even if you already finished Vermund on PS5.
Character creator, hairstyles, and tattoos
Dark Arisen’s third pillar is character customization: new hairstyles and tattoos for both the Arisen and the main pawn, with a rugged northern look in the preview art. You do not need a new vocation — there are none — but you may want a new face if you plan a dedicated Norgan save. The August title update expanded save slots from one to three. Each slot is a different Arisen, and each slot stores autosave, interim save, and last inn rest. You cannot clone the same Arisen across extra slots. If you want a snow-focused character and a Lost Rites mule, start a second adventure; do not expect a “duplicate this hero” button.
Spend time on the main pawn in the creator. That pawn is the only companion whose vocation, inclination, and appearance you fully own. Hired pawns come later from the rift. Details live on Pawns.
Vocations: pick a job, not a new class
The ten vocations are Fighter, Archer, Thief, Mage, Warrior, Sorcerer, Magick Archer, Mystic Spearhand, Trickster, and Warfarer. Producer Naoto Oyama confirmed there are no brand-new vocations in Dark Arisen. The combat change you should learn before launch is six equipped weapon skills instead of four, which the August title update already applies to the base game. Warfarer still spends a slot on Rearmament; six slots means you can keep that swap and still carry five attacks.
If you are unsure, read Vocations and the vocation ranks list. For Norgan, climbing jobs (Thief, Fighter) help on the woolly Norgan Giant, while Mage or Sorcerer cover freeze and flying pests. You can change vocations later at guilds and inns. You cannot wait for an eleventh class that Capcom has not announced.
Level 40 versus level 20
Director Kento Kinoshita recommends around level 40 for Norgan. That is an entry recommendation, not a cap, and the region gets harder as you push north. Lost Rites, the twelve Pathfinder dungeons on the base map, can be attempted from about level 20, with difficulty that ramps across the set. New players who reach the first capital around level 8–10 can hit 20 with a handful of Vernworth quests, then use early Lost Rites as a leveling ladder. Veterans who already sit past 40 can walk into the Forsaken Dominion immediately.
Do not treat 40 as a hard gate or 20 as a promise that every trial is trivial. Kinoshita has said you can bounce between the two tracks: clear an early dungeon, stall on a later one, farm relics in Norgan, then return. Plan that loop now so you are not surprised when a red-glow cyclops in Vermund hits harder than a snow saurian.
Eternal Ferrystone, Portcrystals, and travel
The June title update added the Eternal Ferrystone — unlimited warps to placed Portcrystals — and extra Portcrystals, including ones tied to Melve, Checkpoint Rest Town, Volcanic Island Camp, and the Monster Culling quest. If you already finished Seat of the Sovran, the Eternal Ferrystone should already be in your inventory after talking to Brant (or it was granted automatically). Before Norgan, park Portcrystals at a northern approach, a reliable inn, and a vocation guild. You will be running unidentified spoils back to the Norgandian Settlement for appraisal; a missing crystal turns that loop into a slog.
Camping still matters. Rest, cook, and swap gear before a blizzard trek. The August update added an option to stop meat shortcuts from eating camp supplies — useful once you start feeding Freki, the relic-sniffing direwolf covered in the relic guide.
A practical week-before-launch list
- Buy the correct SKU on pre-order and confirm your platform on platforms.
- Patch to the latest title update so you have six skill slots, three Arisen slots, and the Dragonsplague cure item. Track that work on title updates.
- Create or tidy an Arisen you actually want to play in snow. Apply new hair and tattoos if you care; they are part of the expansion’s pitch, not a stat stick.
- Equip six skills you understand. Practice climbs and pawn orders in the base world using How to Play.
- Be around level 20 if you want Lost Rites on day one, or around 40 if you want Norgan without a detour.
- Place Portcrystals and make sure the Eternal Ferrystone is in your item list.
- Do not plan around Hard Mode. It is in development for post-launch, aimed at level-cap players, and is not confirmed in the October 9 package.
When the servers tick over on October 9, your first in-game action is not a raid lockout. Visit an inn, collect Northern Attire from storage if you pre-ordered, check that Dark Arisen content is on the save, then either take the northern road or open the first Pathfinder trial you can survive. Story length is 15–20 hours in Norgan plus 30–60 minutes per Lost Rite; you have time. What you do not have is a second chance to pick the wrong $49.99 versus $29.99 product or to walk into a blizzard with four skills still bound because you skipped the August patch.
For dates, SKUs, and storefront caveats, keep the release date article next to this checklist. For builds, jump to the tier list after your vocation is locked.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before the October 9, 2026 launch.
Which edition should I buy?
Own the 2024 game on PS5, Xbox, or Steam? Buy the $29.99 expansion. New players should take the $49.99 bundle. Switch 2 includes both. Details: pre-order.
When does the expansion launch?
October 9, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Switch 2. Steam may show October 8. See the release date page.
What level should I be?
About 40 for Norgan. Lost Rites can start near level 20 and get harder as you go.

Inn item storage at launch, collected from an innkeeper. It is the Norgan Fashion Set pre-order bonus, not a day-one mailbox pickup.
Should I wait for Hard Mode?
No. Hard Mode is in development for after launch and is not confirmed in the October 9 package. Prep around six skills and relics instead.
Can I play with friends?
No. The campaign is single-player. Hire AI pawns as described in Pawns.
