Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Vocations and Six Skill Slots
Ten jobs, no new classes, and relic skills that force a rebuild.
Dark Arisen does not add an eleventh vocation. Producer Naoto Oyama has said there are no brand-new classes. The combat change that actually lands before and with the expansion is six equipped weapon skills instead of four, plus relic weapons that can roll unique skills or upgraded versions of skills you already own. The expansion launches October 9, 2026. The six-slot bar is already part of the August title update, so you can rebuild now instead of waiting for snow.
This page is a vocation-by-vocation read for Norgan weather, Lost Rites rooms, and the relic skill lottery. Rankings live on the tier list, vocation ranks, and endgame builds pages; those lists will stay marked as pre-launch until players have the full affix pool.
The six-slot bar
The original Dragon’s Dogma let you set six skills. Dragon’s Dogma 2 shipped with four, and a lot of jobs felt like they were missing a button. Title Update 3.2 raises the cap to six on every vocation. Enemies in Norgan were designed with that bar in mind. Relic weapons can add custom skills or altered skills that flash dark-red when used. You will run out of slots again the moment a bow wants three skills and you still need a mobility tool.
Warfarer is the headline winner. Rearmament still costs a slot. At four skills that meant a tiny kit; at six you can keep the swap and five attacks. Everyone else should treat the extra two slots as “one safety tool and one relic toy,” not two more damage buttons that leave you with no climb, no heal, and no knockdown.
The ten vocations
Fighter — Sword and shield. Blocks, taunts, and climbing on large monsters. First pick for the Norgan Giant’s trunk swings if you want someone to hold a frozen lane. Pair with a Mage pawn.
Archer — Bows, mobility, knockdown shots. Strong against flying pests and longbow barbarians if you can see through a storm. Weak if you refuse to move.
Thief — Daggers, the best climber in the set, burst on weak points. Excellent on Giants and Fimbl hearts. Squishy in red-glow Lost Rites packs if pawns do not peel.
Mage — Staff, heals, enchantments, ice answers. The pawn you hire when Norgan freeze breath is the wipe condition. As an Arisen, you must learn not to stand still in wind.
Warrior — Greatsword or hammer, huge commits. Matches barbarian greatswords in fantasy, loses to freeze if you cannot cancel a charged swing. Relic hammers with extra effects will either make or break the job.
Sorcerer — Archistaff, long casts, big holes in the snow. High payoff on Fimbl and clustered Lost Rites rooms. High risk when electric saurians interrupt. Bring a Fighter pawn who understands “to me.”
Magick Archer — Magickal bow, hybrid shots. Previews showed a relic bow with three skills and a large power jump. If any class becomes the poster child of the identify loop, it is this one. Still no excuse to skip a mobility skill.
Mystic Spearhand — Duospear, dash-and-punish. Comfortable in both open snow and enclosed Rites if you already liked the 2024 kit. Six slots let you keep a gap-closer and a relic extra without cutting the identity of the class.
Trickster — Censer, illusions, pawn conductor. Still the weird job. In Lost Rites, a Trickster who can hold red-glow packs while pawns carve is a strategy, not a meme — if you practice commands. In open Norgan storms, visibility works against you. Hire damage; do not hire a second Trickster.
Warfarer — Every weapon, Rearmament, master of none unless your relics say otherwise. Six slots are the difference between “why did I respec” and “I can carry a Norgan relic dagger and a Rites greatsword on one bar.” Read How to Play if Rearmament still eats your muscle memory.
Unlock advanced vocations the same way you did in the base game. Dark Arisen has not announced new maisters or a twelfth job. If a video promises a northern-only class, it is wrong.
How relics force a rebuild
Base-game skill lists were a solved spreadsheet for many players. Relics re-open it. A weapon can arrive with an upgraded custom skill you already slotted, or with something new that wants a button. You may drop a beloved four-slot rotation to keep a relic effect that trivializes flying pests or freeze. You may also appraise a “unique” skill that is worse than your maister art. Stash it. RC spent is not RC you must honor.
Lost Rites gear does the opposite: fixed properties, enhance it, done. If you hate RNG, lean on those dungeons for your main weapon and treat Norgan relics as jewelry and sidegrades. If you love RNG, do the inverse — but still carry one fixed piece so a bad evening at Jiera does not brick a trial.
Norgan versus Lost Rites loadouts
Norgan wants thermal sense, stamina for climbs, answers for freeze, shock, flyers, and avalanches. Thief, Fighter, Magick Archer, and Mage (on a pawn if not on you) are the boring, correct starting four to test. Lost Rites want burst for enclosed red-glow packs and fewer “hope the storm misses me” tools. Warrior, Sorcerer, Mystic Spearhand, and Warfarer look happier in stone rooms than on ice lakes, with the usual caveat that a relic can flip that overnight.
You can change vocations at guilds and inns. Extra save slots from the August update are for extra Arisen, not extra loadouts of the same hero. If you want a dedicated Trickster save and a dedicated Warrior save, start two adventures. Details are on Getting Started and title updates.
Pawns and your job choice
Your main pawn should cover what you refuse to be. Fighter Arisen? Mage or Magick Archer pawn. Sorcerer Arisen? Fighter or Warrior pawn who will climb while you charge. Trickster Arisen? Fill the other three slots with people who deal damage when the smoke works. Inclinations and Dragonsplague notes are on Pawns. Party-wide ideas sit on party comps.
Hired pawns still cost RC, and RC also pays Jiera. A fashionable rift hire with the wrong resists is a Norgan tax. Check ice and lightning before you click hire.
A rebuild plan before October 9
- Pick a main vocation you already enjoy. You are not waiting for a new class.
- Fill six slots. Two of them should be skills you would still press if a relic weapon stole the other four.
- Take that bar into a large-monster hunt in the base world until stamina and climbs feel automatic.
- Sketch a second vocation for the opposite track (snow versus closed dungeon) but do not respec every hour.
- After launch, appraise a handful of relics before you smash your entire skill grid. If a unique skill is real, screenshot it and test it in an early Lost Rite.
- Ignore Hard Mode while you do this. It is in development for post-launch and is not confirmed in the October 9 package.
Vocations in Dark Arisen are a rearrangement of a kit you already own, plus a loot layer that can hand you a new button. That is less exciting than a northern assassin class and more honest. If you wanted twelve jobs, you will not get them. If you wanted the fourth and fifth skills the 2024 game withheld, you already have them — go use them in the snow.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before the October 9, 2026 launch.
Are there new vocations in Dark Arisen?
No. Oyama confirmed there are no new classes. The change is six skill slots and relic skills. See also vocation ranks.
When do I get six weapon skills?
The August title update already raises the cap from four to six for the base game. Norgan enemies assume that bar. Patch notes: title updates.
Which vocation is best for Norgan?
Unranked until launch. Climbing jobs and ice answers (Thief, Fighter, Mage, Magick Archer) are the safe tests. Track that on the tier list.
Does Warfarer still lose a slot to Rearmament?
Yes, but six slots mean five attacks plus the swap. That is the class's biggest quality-of-life change. More in How to Play.
Can relic weapons add new skills?
Yes. Some relics roll unique or upgraded skills. Lost Rites gear stays on fixed properties instead.
