Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen What Gamescom actually played

A short Norgan demo, a Switch 2 capture, and no full-game review score.

Gamescom and Preview Notes

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is still an upcoming expansion. The date is October 9, 2026. What changed in late August is not the ship date — it is that press and show-floor players finally touched Norgan at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne (August 26–30). This page is that hands-on. The video in the middle is Capcom’s own Gamescom 2026 gameplay session with director Kento Kinoshita (about 31 minutes). VGC’s Switch 2 capture from the same window now lives on platforms. This is not a review of the finished product, and it is not a substitute for getting started.

Capcom also listed Tokyo Game Show 2026 attendance on the official Dark Arisen site. Treat TGS as another exhibit, not a second launch.

What the Gamescom demo contained

Multiple outlets (PCMag, Sportskeeda, Inven, VGC, GamingBolt, IGN’s gamescom interview) describe the same skeleton:

  • You start in Norgan, not in Vernworth. A quest title used in coverage: Commotion in Norgan.
  • A relic appraisal tutorial in the settlement happens first. Unidentified spoils go to the local wise woman (Jiera in IGN/Kinoshita interviews). Rift Crystals pay for the identify. Then you walk north.
  • Field fights on the way: marauders, wolves, flyers, and a Norgan Giant (woolly, freeze breath, tree trunk). Details live on enemies and relics.
  • The demo climaxes on a Fallen Dragon encounter: inky breath, summoned undead, climb-the-monster grammar, layered health. Developers called it a story puzzle piece. Some kits then fade to the Arisen losing consciousness — Inven treats that as the trailer’s stop line.
  • Eir appears as the pursuer. You do not play as her.

Session length in reports is about an hour, sometimes on a level ~50 Arisen with pre-picked pawns and a blank Norgan map. That is a show demo, not New Game.

Switch 2, PS5, and how it ran

VGC published Nintendo Switch 2 gameplay from the expansion (the video embedded on this page). Sportskeeda’s writer said the hour ran clean on PS5 and also felt solid on Switch 2. PCMag compared PS5 and Switch 2 builds. Nobody published a locked 4K/60 claim for handheld. Producer Naoto Oyama’s 60 FPS Performance Mode sentence is for PS5 and Xbox Series X in Title Update 3.2, which is a 2024-campaign patch, not a Switch 2 spec sheet. Read platforms and title updates before you quote a frame-rate number.

Inven scored the demo experience 8.5. That is one outlet’s hands-on impression of a slice, not Metacritic for October 9.

What previews confirmed that trailers only hinted

  • Relic identification is a camp/town loop, not a dungeon-only curse chest. Appraisal is Norgan-only; you can still take the resulting gear south into Lost Rites.
  • Six skill slots are in the demo builds because 3.2 already shipped (September 1, 2026 go-live after the late-August slip). Preview combat assumes that bar. Controls if the extra chords are new to you.
  • The Fallen Dragon is not a fire-hose clone of Grigori. Ghouls and ink are the tell.
  • Kinoshita, to IGN at the show, stressed you are not locked in Norgan after you arrive. Relic farm, then leave.

What previews still did not give you

  • A named list of all twelve Lost Rites.
  • A relic affix spreadsheet.
  • A New Game hour from Cassardis.
  • Hard Mode. Still post-launch.
  • A review embargo for the full expansion. Do not treat this page as “Dark Arisen is out.”

How to use this page in September

If you already own the 2024 campaign, install 3.2, rebuild six skills, and decide whether Gamescom’s Giant-plus-dragon slice makes the $29.99 DLC worth it for you. If you do not own the campaign, the $49.99 bundle (or the Switch 2 combined SKU) is still the October 9 product — previews do not let you download Norgan early. Digital bundle pre-orders can grant the base game now. That is 2024 Vermund, not the snow. Pre-order.

When October 9 hits, this entry becomes a footnote under release date. Until then it is the honest recap of what a crowded show floor actually let people play.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before the October 9, 2026 launch.

Can I play the Gamescom demo at home?

No public download was announced with the show. The hands-on was on-site. Home players wait for October 9, 2026.

Does Switch 2 already have Dark Arisen?

No. Footage is preview capture. The Switch 2 SKU that includes the campaign and the expansion still launches October 9, 2026.

Is an 8.5 from Inven the review score?

It is a demo impression. The expansion has not launched. Do not treat it as a launch review.

What quest does the demo start with?

Coverage names Commotion in Norgan, after a relic appraisal tutorial in the settlement. That is a show slice, not the full campaign opening.
