Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Vocation ranks before launch
A preview list, not a live-game meta. Six skills and Norgan relics move the board.
This ranking is a pre-release preview. Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen still launches on October 9, 2026. We have not farmed live relic tables, and we will not pretend a demo Magick Archer bow is a finished meta. Use the list to plan a first Arisen, then replace it with your own logs after you walk Norgan.
Capcom added no new vocations. The ten jobs from the 2024 campaign are still the whole roster: Fighter, Archer, Thief, Mage, Warrior, Sorcerer, Magick Archer, Mystic Spearhand, Trickster, and Warfarer. What did change is the weapon-skill bar. The late-August title update (Title Update 3.2) raised equipped skills from four to six for every vocation. Relic weapons appraised in Norgan can also roll upgraded or unique skills on top of that bar. Those two facts — not a secret eleventh class — are why ranks look different from 2024 write-ups.
Hands-on coverage and showcase footage used a Magick Archer bow named Singular Sanguine Radiance as the relic example. It arrived from a bow-staff spoil, jumped hard in raw power, and showed extra skill lines in the inspect screen (a Sagittate-style downpour upgrade and a Fortifying-style arrow among them). That one drop is the best public illustration of how relics can rewrite a vocation. It is not proof that every class gets an equivalent bow on day one.
Preview ranks (Arisen-first)
S — Magick Archer, Warfarer, Mystic Spearhand
Magick Archer already mixed seeker bolts, elemental orbs, and pawn-support arrows. Six slots let you keep Frosthunter-style tracking, a detonating fire tool, a sustain arrow, and Martyr’s Bolt without deleting coverage. Singular Sanguine Radiance is the relic poster child: if your appraised bow further upgrades those lines, the vocation becomes the cleanest answer to Norgan’s mixed monster packs and to flying pests that melee Arisen cannot reach in a blizzard.
Warfarer was the vocation four slots hurt the most. Rearmament still occupies a slot, but the remaining five can be real weapons instead of a cramped three-skill kit. Preview players who kept a magickal bow plus a duospear finally had room to be a Magick Archer and a Mystic Spearhand in one body. That is the entire point of Warfarer, and Dark Arisen’s bar finally pays the idea off. Relic weapons that carry extra skills stack even harder here because you can swap to the relic’s weapon type and fire its rolled skill without abandoning the rest of the kit.
Mystic Spearhand lives on tempo: Winding Cut, Dragoun’s Foin, Mirour Vesture, and gap-closers. In the four-slot era you often cut the barrier to keep damage. Six slots restore the duospear’s intended loop — poke, cloak, punish — which matters in Lost Rites corridors where a single wipe costs a 30-to-60-minute run. If a relic duospear rolls an upgraded foin or a unique follow-up, Spearhand jumps from “strong hybrid” to the safest Arisen pick for dungeon bosses.
A — Warrior, Sorcerer, Thief, Archer
Warrior spent years as the class that felt short on buttons. Preview kits finally mixed a counter, a leaping thrust, a charge, and Riotous Fury without deleting mobility. Norgan’s large bodies and Lost Rites’ packed rooms both reward a greatsword that can stagger without help. Warrior is still hungry for a Mage pawn, because self-heal remains thin, but as a personal vocation it is no longer a meme.
Sorcerer scales with time-to-cast and with pawn protection. Six slots mean you can hold a crowd-control line, a high nuke, and a mobility or barrier tool instead of living on Flagration plus hope. Relic archistaves that add unique skills would push Sorcerer into S; until we see those rolls in the wild, it stays A.
Thief remains the climb-and-cut specialist. Formless Feint cost more stamina after the August patch, but the vocation-action punish on a clean read still exists. In Lost Rites, vertical rooms and single-target bosses favor Helm Splitter more than they favor a Trickster illusion. In open Norgan snow, Thief is slightly worse than Magick Archer because blizzards and range matter, which is why it sits in A rather than S.
Archer is the physical answer to the same range problem Magick Archer solves with elements. Dire Arrow and faster nock times on special shots arrived in the free patch, so the class is healthier than it was in 2024 even before relics. It loses S because it has no pawn-heal arrow and no relic showcase as loud as Singular Sanguine Radiance — yet.
B — Fighter, Mage
Fighter is the pawn gold standard and a perfectly fine Arisen if you like shields. Perfect blocks and party-peel still win fights that hybrids fumble. It sits in B on an Arisen-first list because relic fantasy and six-skill flexibility look more exciting on the hybrids. If your joy is standing in a doorway in a Lost Rite, ignore the letter and play Fighter.
Mage on the Arisen is the same story in reverse. You can run Anodyne and Levin yourself. You usually should not, because a Mage pawn already does that job while you deal damage. Rank Mage as B for the player character and as S for the pawn slot — see party compositions.
C — Trickster
Trickster is still Arisen-only and still a control vocation that asks your pawns to finish the work. Six slots help (more illusions and more smoke at once), but Norgan’s relic loop and Lost Rites’ timer-like dungeon length both reward damage and sustain more than a full illusion kit. Bring Trickster if you already love it. Do not bring it as a first-run Norgan plan unless your pawn line is built to carry.
How relics can scramble the letters
Kinoshita’s relic cycle is the wildcard. You pick up unidentified spoils in Norgan, pay Jiera in Rift Crystals, and receive weapons or armor with randomized attack, defense, extra effects, and sometimes upgraded custom skills. Lost Rites do not feed this loop; their loot is fixed. A Fighter who appraises a shield with a unique counter skill can leap past this preview. A Magick Archer who never sees a bow-staff spoil can look ordinary. That is why this page will age the day the expansion launches.
Until then, the conservative advice is:
- Main a hybrid (Magick Archer, Mystic Spearhand, or Warfarer) for your first Norgan push around level 40.
- Keep Mage and Fighter as pawn vocations even if you never play them yourself.
- Spend Rift Crystals on the weapon type you actually press buttons with. Appraising every spoil is a gold sink in crystal form.
What this list is not
It is not a PvP ranking. The campaign is single-player. It is not a Hard Mode ranking; Hard Mode is in development after launch for level-cap players and is not confirmed in the October 9 package. It is not a pawn-inclination bible — use the pawn guide for that. It is not a promise that Singular Sanguine Radiance is the best bow in the shipped game; it is the bow Capcom and preview builds chose to show.
If you are still finishing Vermund and Battahl, stay on the getting started and how to play tracks until you are near the Lost Rites level-20 door or the Norgan level-40 recommendation. Ranking a vocation you have not unlocked yet is just reading.
When October 9 arrives, we will rebuild this page from actual relic logs. Until then, pick Magick Archer if you want the preview’s loudest toy, pick Warfarer if you want the six-skill patch’s biggest winner, and pick Mystic Spearhand if you want a melee hybrid that no longer has to drop its barrier to keep a kill button.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers before the October 9, 2026 launch.
Is Magick Archer actually S-tier in the shipped expansion?
Unknown until October 9, 2026. Preview builds and showcase relics such as Singular Sanguine Radiance make it the safest S-rank guess. Live drop tables can change that on day one.
Why did Warfarer jump so far?
Rearmament used to eat one of four skill slots, leaving three real tools. Six slots leave five. That is the difference between a gimmick and a main vocation, especially when relic weapons add extra skills on the swapped kit.
Do pawns follow this same S-A-B-C list?
No. This page ranks the Arisen. Mage and Fighter climb when you draft pawns. Trickster cannot be a pawn at all. Use the party compositions page for four-person roles.
Will relic skills replace vocation ranks?
They can scramble them. Relics are appraised only in Norgan and can roll unique or upgraded skills. Lost Rites gear stays fixed. Until we have real rolls, vocation identity still matters more than any single screenshot bow.
Should I wait for Hard Mode before picking a class?
No. Hard Mode is post-launch work for level-cap players and is not confirmed as part of the October 9 ship. Pick a vocation you can play for 25-plus hours in the content that is actually coming.
Are these ranks copied from the 2013 Dark Arisen list?
No. This is Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, the 2026 expansion. Magick Archer, Mystic Spearhand, Trickster, and Warfarer did not exist in that older game in this form.
