Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Lost Rites Dungeon Challenges

Twelve Pathfinder trials in Vermund and Battahl, not a second Norgan.

Last updated:

Lost Rites

Lost Rites are twelve dungeon challenges Dark Arisen plants on the original Dragon’s Dogma 2 map. They are Pathfinder trials, not extra caves in the snow. Producer Naoto Oyama says each dungeon is designed for roughly 30–60 minutes, which is how twelve of them help the expansion land above 25 hours when stacked with the 15–20 hour Norgan story. The expansion launches October 9, 2026. Until then, treat named locations, chest tables, and boss lists as unconfirmed.

This is the pillar for people who loved Vermund and Battahl and did not want every new fight to live behind a northern loading screen. You will still want relic gear from the north. You will not farm unidentified spoils inside these trials.

What a Lost Rite is

Showcase footage showed enclosed, raid-like spaces where you fight juiced versions of creatures you already know. Enemies carry a red glow around the head — a tell that this is not a roadside goblin pack. Rewards are rare equipment once held by past Arisen. Those pieces have fixed properties. They get stronger when enhanced. They do not roll like relics after a Jiera visit.

Think of Lost Rites as exams with an answer key, and relics as a deck you shuffle in the snow. You need both if you want the full expansion, but you can start the exams earlier.

Level 20 entry, then a ramp

Director Kento Kinoshita told Automaton that the twelve dungeons are available from level 20, while Norgan is recommended around 40. New players who hit the first capital at level 8–10 can reach 20 with a few Vernworth quests, then use early Lost Rites as character progression — faster levels and “stronger than usual” weapons and armor. Later trials are meant to feel out of reach until you either grind, swap vocations, or bring relic toys back from the north.

If you are already past 40, do not assume the first door is a joke and the twelfth is still a joke. Kinoshita’s phrase is that they ramp. Preview coverage also frames them as the kind of challenge the base game lacked once you were strong. Plan a wipe. Place a Portcrystal outside. The Eternal Ferrystone from the June title update is how you retry without an oxcart pilgrimage.

Red-glow enemies and why pawns matter

The red glow is the language of the preview clips: heads haloed, packs denser, hits heavier than the overworld version of the same skeleton. These are not simple recolours with bigger health bars if Capcom’s stated intent holds — they are meant to pressure the six-skill bar the August title update already gave you. Bring climbing for large monsters, a cleanse or ranged answer for flyers, and pawns whose inclinations will not wander into a red-glow cyclops swing.

Party notes belong on Pawns and party comps. The short version: a Trickster who never enters these rooms is a wasted conductor, a Mage who stands in the red pack is a wipe, and a hired pawn with no resist for the local element is how you learn RC costs twice.

Fixed loot versus relics

Lost Rites gear:

  • Found in the twelve base-map dungeons.
  • Fixed properties (what you see is what you get).
  • Enhances along the normal upgrade path, and is called out as stronger than usual for the moment you find it.
  • Themed as kit of past Arisen.

Relics:

  • Unidentified spoils from Norgan only.
  • Randomized after Jiera spends your Rift Crystals.
  • Can include unique or upgraded skills.
  • Wearable in Lost Rites once identified.

Do not walk into a late trial expecting the dungeon to drop a mystery helm you can appraise in Vernworth. Do not skip Norgan because a fixed greatsword from trial three “should be enough.” The design is a conversation: stall on a hard Rite, hunt relics, return. Or clear early Rites to fund a level 40 Norgan entry, then come back with a unique-skill bow.

Parallel play, not a checklist you must finish first

You can mix the two tracks on day one. A brand-new bundle buyer on Switch 2 can play the base story, dip into a level 20 Rite, then keep the main quest moving. A 2024 veteran can ignore the early dungeons, walk into the Forsaken Dominion, and only later use Lost Rites as a relic testing ground. Neither path is the “real” one. Oyama’s hour counts assume you do both, not that you must sequence them like a raid tier.

Hard Mode is not a Lost Rites modifier on October 9. It is in development for post-launch, aimed at level-cap players. If a preview thumbnail says otherwise, ignore it. Difficulty in these twelve rooms is the ramp inside the expansion, not a separate mode toggle.

What we still do not know

Capcom has not posted a public list of all twelve dungeon names, map pins, or whether they reuse Godsbane-door geography that dataminers argued about. Community guesses about doors are not this wiki’s loot table. We also do not have official boss lists, wipe mechanics, or whether pawns can be locked out of a room. When those facts exist, they will be added here with internal links to the relevant Norgan and relic notes — not copied from a leaked spreadsheet.

Hairstyles and tattoos, the third pillar, do nothing inside a Rite except make your corpse look nicer. They still matter if you are rolling a second Arisen on the extra save slots from the August title update. Mechanical prep is six skills, Eternal Ferrystone, and a pawn roster, which How to Play and Getting Started cover.

Which trials to attempt first

Before launch, the honest answer is: the earliest doors you can open at around level 20, on a vocation you already understand. Do not save every Rite “for after Norgan” if you need levels and fixed gear. Do not smash your head on a late red-glow room to prove a point when Jiera is sitting on a relic that would change the fight. After launch, this section will name the first two or three trials that play like tutorials and the ones that should wait on relic skills.

Until then, practice the habits the dungeons will demand. Climb a cyclops in the overworld until six skills feel natural. Hire a pawn you would actually take into a closed room. Put a Portcrystal on a road you use. Then, on October 9, open one door, time it, and decide whether the next hour belongs in Vermund stone or Norgan snow. For storefront timing see the release date page; for vocation picks see vocations and the tier list.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before the October 9, 2026 launch.

Where are Lost Rites?

On the original Dragon's Dogma 2 map, as twelve Pathfinder dungeon challenges. They are not inside Norgan.

What level do I need?

About 20 for the opening trials, with difficulty that ramps. Norgan is still recommended around 40.

Is Lost Rites loot random like relics?

No. Lost Rites gear has fixed properties and enhances. Relics are the randomized Norgan track — see Relics.

Can I play Lost Rites and Norgan together?

Yes. Capcom wants parallel play: stall on a hard trial, farm relics, then return. Relic gear is allowed in the dungeons.

How long is each dungeon?

Producer Naoto Oyama said roughly 30–60 minutes each. Twelve of them plus the Norgan story are how the team quotes 25+ hours.

Is Hard Mode required?

No. Hard Mode is in development for after launch and is not confirmed in the October 9 package.
